Meet Your Instructor
I was born in Minneapolis and raised in the northernmost mountains of Idaho during the finer months of the year. Before making the jump into aviation I worked for Fish and Game and various conservation agencies in Washington and California. I have a passion for the outdoors, the deep woods, and wild rivers. Aviation has only opened that door to the wilderness even further and I’d love to share it with you.
I’ve spent my career earning professional-level certificates in aviation as CFII, in medicine as an EMT, and in wilderness survival as a Rescue Technician. As a 1000hr+ Instructor, I have a 100% checkride pass rate and a passion for sharing the knowledge and experience I’ve gleaned over the years. My goal isn’t just to get you your ratings; it’s to make you a confident and proficient pilot who can approach flight with an active mindset.
The short of it is that you’ll need to embrace your role as a student pilot and never leave that label behind. I’m teaching you to become a life-long learner.
Ground study will be your key to success. A minimum 2x the number of hours you fly per week should be spent hitting the books. I can get you landing an airplane on your own in around 20 hours total, the rest is really up to you on how committed you are to making yourself knowledgeable and proficient. What gets you into trouble in the air is most likely due to human error, lack of judgment, and poor aeronautical decision-making.
This is why I offer a free ground school every week. Knowledge is power; flying will become second-nature if you do it enough. You are the biggest risk factor involved, and I promise you there’s more material out there to absorb than you have the time for, so let’s get started.
Some of my favorite memories from the air.
